Mindfulness for Teachers
Elizabeth Grace Hale-MacKinnon
Montessori education is education for peace. The adults in the environment serve as essential stabilizing links for the child's experience. Mindfulness is about bringing awareness to the present moment, and noticing what is happening before responding. When adults are self-aware and present they are able to serve as models for the children who are learning how to be complete human beings.
Respect and trust are keys to how Elizabeth approaches others. Holding AMI diplomas at the 3-6 and 6-12 levels, she currently teaches adolescents at Staunton Montessori School and manages Heartmoor Farm Education Centre in Fluvanna County. Sharing mindfulness through exercises in personal awareness is a passion of hers as well as volunteering with Richmond Peace Education Center and the Virginia Center for Restorative Justice.
