Freedom With Responsibility:  What It Means in The Toddler Community

Susan Kennedy
Montessori's education formula is The Prepared Environment, The Prepared Adult, and Freedom With Responsibility.  I will discuss this third aspect with regard to the toddler community; including effective limit-setting and toddler specific conflict resolution.

I became a Montessori parent in 1989 and first entered the classroom as an assistant in 1993.  I earned my AMS Infant and Toddler credential in 1996 and have been working with toddlers and their parents ever since, first at the Montessori School of Charlottesville and then Mountaintop Montessori.  I've worked with adult learners through the Virginia Center for Montessori Studies and through Trinity Montessori Education Center.  I am the lucky mama of two adult daughters who have decided, now that they are grown, that I'm ok to hang out with.
The Virginia Montessori Association is a non-profit (501(c)3) that was established in 2015 to bring Montessorians in Virginia together and to offer a community from which we all could benefit.  Administrators, educators, parents and other supporters can connect, inform and communicate in a way that is of value to all.
