Lower Elementary Teacher

The Montessori School of McLean (MSM) is seeking an additional certified Lower Elementary Lead Teacher to join our dynamic team for the 2024-2025 school year.

MSM was founded in 1973 with one elementary and one primary classroom. Over the past 50 years, it has grown into a thriving school community with 225 students from Toddler through Upper Elementary. Located in the town of McLean, Virginia, MSM attracts families from across Fairfax and Arlington Counties. With four spacious acres, MSM offers an AMS-accredited learning environment for students ages 2-12 with two toddler classrooms, five primary classrooms, three lower elementary classrooms, and one upper elementary classroom.

In addition to the core Montessori philosophy, MSM students are fortunate to enjoy a broad enrichment curriculum that includes supportive features such as:
Outdoor Classroom with gardens and a greenhouse
Science lab
Technology and Robotics lab
Art studio and makerspace
Large Multi-Purpose Room for indoor PE, with sound and lighting for musical and dramatic performances
Spanish center
Library with a wide range fiction and non-fiction
Large campus with natural features, a playground, and a sports court and soccer field for outdoor physical education

Successful Candidates will possess the following:

• The ability to teach consistent with Montessori educational practices for the elementary program level
• A love for and deep commitment to working with children in the most formative years of their educational journey
• A warm, fun-loving, and positive demeanor in all interactions with students, faculty, staff, and parents
• Strong communication skills with students, faculty, staff and parents
• A growth mindset in presenting and leveraging lessons to support the educational success of elementary students
• The ability to be collaborative and flexible, and work with a dynamic elementary team to foster and encourage innovation and excellence in teaching within the Montessori pedagogy
• The ability to prepare and maintain an orderly, attractive, and clean environment in the classroom
• Skills in educational technology

Position Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
• AMS or AMI Montessori certification (LE I-II preferred but LE I required), or a Montessori Diploma from a MACTE recognized training center for elementary
• Minimum of 2 years Montessori elementary teaching experience
