Williamsburg Montessori School (WMS) located in Williamsburg, VA is seeking a Middle School (Secondary I) Science Teacher to join our collaborative and driven teaching team. The Science Teacher will plan, teach, and oversee all aspects of the science curriculum within the framework of our Montessori Adolescent Program. While Montessori training is preferred, the ideal candidate will execute a student-centered, multi-leveled program and possesses a flexible mindset and approach to learning. Through meaningful, engaging, and authentic work, our education is designed to foster our students’ social, physical, and intellectual development and prepare them for success in high school, higher education, and life beyond formal school. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES ● Implement age-appropriate curriculum using Montessori teaching philosophy and practice ● Implement curriculum for Life Science and Physical Science in alternating years for 7th and 8th grade learners ● Implement Climate Studies course each first semester of the school year ● Implement Aquaculture and Bay Studies curriculum throughout the year ● Differentiate learning to accommodate a variety of learners ● Assess student learning using a variety of tools in keeping with Montessori philosophy ● Maintain online class management reporting – Canvas ● Create written progress reports ● Demonstrate respect and kindness for the students ● Collaborate with Middle School teaching team to integrate Science with other curriculum areas ● Consult classroom teachers when assigning due dates for work ● Attend Middle School level meetings and participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings ● Implement school policies for classroom and school behaviors for students ● Maintain appropriate and professional parent communication ● On days mutually acceptable to the School and to Teacher, participate in school events and parent education events ● Prepare an environment that is orderly and neat that promotes optimal use of teaching time ● Communicate with Middle School Director and administration regarding any needs or issues including material and curriculum needs ● Contribute to a sense of community among students, faculty and staff ● Participate in professional development opportunities and fulfill a minimum of 16 required hours EXPERIENCE • Montessori Adolescent Credential from a MACTE certified program preferred • Bachelor’s Degree required • Teaching experience in middle or high school preferred • Knowledge of Life and Physical Sciences • Place-based education experience preferred • Experience working in a collaborative, open environment valued • Flexibility and ability to embrace change and adapt to new situations This is a full-time position, approximately 30 hours per week (hours approximately 11:00am-4:00pm plus 5 hours planning time) for the remainder of the 2024-25 school year (January– June).
