John is an Assistant Professor of Education and Program Director of Elementary, PreK-12, Secondary, and Special Education in the College of Education at the University of Mary Washington. He has been involved in the Montessori community for more than 10 years. John has studied adolescent civic and economic learning in the Montessori middle school environment, published this research in the Journal for Social Studies Research, and presented at the International Montessori Congress, the National Council for the Social Studies, and the American Educational Research Association. He is a founding editorial board member of the Journal of Montessori Research (the official journal of the American Montessori Society) as well as a participant at the annual Montessori research retreat. John holds an B.A. from the College of William and Mary, a M.Ed. from George Mason University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia.
