Tammie Collins
Tammie Collins began her career as an auditor at then Price Waterhouse. She left the work force to raise her children and become a community volunteer, with a focus on equity in education. With a belief that education is a great equalizer, she joined organizations that served under resourced communities, including the D.C.-based Corcoran Women’s Committee at the Corcoran Gallery of Art and College of Art + Design, where she chaired the Public Education and Outreach Committee, planned the free-to-all Corcoran Annual Family Day, and also chaired the 2011 Corcoran Ball, dedicating the funds raised to the educational art programs for the children of Wards 7 and 8 in the city.
As a six-year member of the Latino Student Fund Board, Tammie helped the organization further its mission to "provide opportunities for a strong academic foundation for PreK-12th grade students of Hispanic descent to promote higher education and professional leadership." In addition to managing the Annual Fund, she chaired The LSF Gala three times to raise necessary scholarship funds. She is also a founding member of the Council on Women's Leadership at Meridian International Center, which encourages young women of all backgrounds to learn about the importance of global affairs in their lives. As Co-President of St. Johns Community Services, Tammie worked within DCPS schools to tutor and expand educational experiences for children with learning differences.
Tammie continues to be dedicated to leveling the playing field for access to quality education for all children. She has led numerous scholarship campaigns and events to raise much needed funds over the past 20 plus years and is happy to continue her advocacy as a board member of the Virginia Montessori Association.
