Montessori School of Charlottesville

The Montessori School of Charlottesville (MSC) is currently seeking members for our Board of Directors. There are currently three open seats on our Board and these seats could be filled on a rolling basis over the next twelve months. There will be an additional two seats available in Spring 2026. Board members hold office for no more than three years, but shorter commitments are okay too as long as we can stagger the exit/entrance of our members to ensure stability and success for the board over time.

Qualifications we are currently seeking in board members:

-Experience in Montessori pedagogy and Montessori teaching

-Accounting/Financial management background (we need a new treasurer)

-Law degree or law experience

-Human Resources background

-Fundraising background

Some background about Montessori School of Charlottesville: MSC was founded in 1976 on Cutler Lane in Charlottesville and became a non-profit in 2000. Since inception that school has expanded its campus to include an additional site on Gordon Avenue. The Montessori School of Charlottesville provides a peaceful, nurturing learning environment for children ages 21 months to six years. This year the school had 85 students enrolled. The school is proud to have many cultures represented in our families and staff. Our student demographic includes White, African American, Asian, Latinx, and others. We have worked hard over the years to increase access to Montessori to every family, regardless of income. We are a childcare subsidy provider and have a limited in-house scholarship fund, which includes Avi’s Fund specifically targeting immigrant and minority children. Each of our six classrooms is staffed with two adults, a lead teacher and assistant. We prioritize that every classroom is led by a Montessori Guide trained through programs approved by the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education.
