Position Summary

Reporting to the Head of School and working closely with other staff and community families, the Toddler Lead Teacher is responsible for overseeing and driving the efficient operations of a Toddler level classroom. The Lead Teacher will plan for lessons, on both individual and class-wide levels. They will ensure that the classroom is well prepared for the students, and ensure that materials are rotated in a way that meets both Montessori theory and the specific needs of the students in the class. They will act as a leader to their assistant teacher, as well as a leader within the staff community. They will ensure that UMS’s mission is always guiding them, and they will provide families with information, support and guidance.


Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of classroom instruction: planning lessons for individual students and the class as a whole, implementing lessons and creating new works.

  • Complete 16 hours per year of professional development.

  • Support other staff with their questions regarding Montessori theory/curriculum.

  • Maintain a prepared environment.

  • Instruct and engage with Assistant Teacher to ensure a strong teaching team within the classroom.

  • Attend Community Meetings and other school events (Fall Fun Fair, etc.).

  • Participate in twice annual parent/teacher conferences. Prepare and distribute conference reports prior to conferences.

  • Engage with parents and community members, creating relationships and a positive dynamic with the community.

  • Other responsibilities as are necessary to support a thriving Montessori environment.


Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED required

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

  • Montessori Toddler level Teaching Certificate required.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software and Google Workspace.

  • Ability to complete tasks independently

  • Ability to exhibit discretion in information sharing

  • Collaborative team member

  • Ability to interact with all levels of the school

  • Must clear all required background checks

  • Excellent judgment, with the ability to manage confidential and sensitive information.


Compensation

Salary: $40,000 - $45,000 to start, depending on experience


Reports to: Head of School

Schedule: 8am-4pm at school 1034 Reservoir Rd. Charlottesville, VA


Benefits: $100 health stipend per month, seven days for sick or personal leave to start, 20 paid vacation days as stated in the school calendar.
