The Music Teacher is responsible for providing music instruction to students from infancy through 6th grade, using developmentally appropriate practices and aligned with Montessori principles.
This part-time role requires a musically proficient, organized, and self-directed educator who is deeply committed to working with children and fostering a love for music.
Key Responsibilities
Design and implement a sequential music curriculum rooted in Montessori philosophy, tailored to students from infancy through 6th grade.
Incorporate singing, rhythm, movement, instrumental exploration, and age-appropriate
music theory into lessons.
Maintain lesson plans, student progress records, and assessments.
Prepare and guide students for musical presentations and seasonal performances as appropriate.
Collaborate with classroom guides to support the integration of music into the broader
curriculum.
Create an environment that encourages creativity, joy, and respect in music-making.
Care for and manage music materials and instruments.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in music education, Early Childhood Education, or a related field (required)
Experience teaching music to children; Montessori or progressive education setting preferred
Orff Schulwerk or similar music education training (preferred)
Strong organizational and planning skills
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Deep understanding of child development and musical growth in early and elementary years
A genuine love of music and enthusiasm for sharing it with children of all ages
