Bedford, Virginia World Community Education Center (WCEC) in Bedford VA is hiring teachers with a desire to work in a transformational setting! (http://worldcommunityedu.org) WCEC is seeking an energetic and dedicated, multi-disciplinary or STEM focused Adolescent Guide to join our growing school starting August 2021. QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate will have Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree; enthusiasm for project-based learning; teaching experience, preferably with a diverse group of students; knowledge/experience in STEM fields (particularly the sciences); excellent communication skills; the ability to work in a team; a love for the outdoors; and a passion for working with adolescents. Teacher training and/or experience required; Montessori background is a plus. RESPONSIBILITIES: Our growing Middle and High School program serves a dynamic group of 10 students (grades 9 through 12). The Adolescent Guide is responsible for the educational advancement for these 10 students, utilizing principles based in the Montessori tradition of education. Specific responsibilities include: • Planning and implementing the STEM program, in consultation with school administration; • Create lesson plans; evaluate student performances; prepare grades and reports • Teach using lectures, project-based and hands-on learning experiences • Supporting students and tailor instruction to student needs • Communicate with parents regarding student progress, • Organize and supporting a variety of student-led and hands-on projects and field-trips. At WCEC, all teachers are active community members who share in the general support and care of the school community, serve as student advisors, and participate in community service. Responsibilities for this position also include collaboration and participation in a school-wide, co-curricular activities. This is a 9-month, beginning August 2021 for between 20 to 36 hours/week. (Specific hours and schedule to be determined by course load.) An ability to support school functions, which occasionally occur on evenings and weekends, is a plus.
