Afternoon Assistant Teacher

The Montessori School of Charlottesville has provided Montessori education in the Charlottesville area for over 45 years. We aim to create an ideal environment where children and adults can work with respect and joy to reach their full potential.

We are looking for an assistant teacher for our Afternoon Program at our Gordon Ave location, starting immediately. 

Responsibilities include: supporting Montessori Philosophy and children's social-emotional development, maintaining clean and orderly classroom spaces with the help of the children, ensuring safe supervision of children, and amplifying respect and joy in our community.

Requirements include: the ability to be reliable, consistent and flexible, a love and understanding of children, high school diploma (early childhood certification or equivalent preferred) and experience working with young children, and the ability to spend time on the floor/easily get down to children's level. Previous experience in Montessori settings preferred.

Salary starts between $16 and $18/hour, based on experience and training. The Academic calendar runs from mid-August to early June with Summer Camp contracted separately. Schedule M-F, 2:30-5:30 with opportunities to sub in the mornings. Benefits include health coverage, PTO, holiday pay, and Simple IRA.
