Bedford, VA World Community Education Center is seeking an energetic and dedicated, multi-disciplinary or STEM focused Adolescent Guide to join our growing school starting August 2019. The ideal candidate will have Bachelor's or Master's Degree; enthusiasm for project-based learning; teaching experience, preferably in STEM subjects; experience working with a diverse group of students; a love for the outdoors; the ability to work collaboratively in a team; excellent communication skills; a passion for working with adolescents. Our growing Middle and High School program serves a dynamic group of 10 students (grades 7 through 12). The Adolescent Guide is responsible for the educational advancement for these 10 students, utilizing principles based in the Montessori tradition of education. Specific responsibilities include planning, leading, and implementing the STEM curriculum, supporting students, communication with parents regarding student progress, and organizing and supporting a variety of student-led and hands-on projects, off-campus field studies, and service activities. At WCEC, all teachers are active community members who share in the general support and care of the school community, serve as student advisors, and participate in community service, among other activities. Responsibilities for this position also include collaboration and participation in school-wide, co-curricular activities. About the World Community Education Center The World Community Education Center is an independent, non-profit Montessori school located in southern Virginia, in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Established in 1975, we are currently serving 33 students from age 3 through grade 12. World Community Education Center has a proven record of academic excellence, learning through service, and emphasis on universal spiritual values. Our campus is located on an 80-acre community property with trails, stream, pond, a large organic garden, farm animals, and wildlife.
