​Student Support Services Instructor

Mountaintop Montessori, a private independent school, is currently seeking qualified candidates to fill a part-time student support services instructor position in our students support services program during our 2022-23 school year. This position is likely to work predominantly with 6th, 7th, and 8th graders this year.

About the Position:
Desired profile for this position is someone who has a credential in special education and experience working with children who require differentiated instruction. We are looking for someone flexible and eager to contribute to a team-oriented teaching environment. The ideal candidate should also be comfortable with working with the adolescent age group (11-14 year olds), competent in aiding students with their academic assignments when needed, and willing to support children with learning differences in building executive functioning skills. The instructor should possess strong teaching and classroom management skills, and has the ability to guide children through redirection and affirmative language. An open-mind and a sense of humor are also highly desired. This position begins in September and is contracted through early June with the potential of continuing into the next school year.

Shift: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Student Support Services Instructor is responsible for (but not limited to) the following duties: Administer screening tools to students to assess student skill levels
Support identified students in the classroom environment or through individual or small group instruction
Coordinate with Student Support Services staff and classroom teachers to plan and implement specialized teaching interventions
Participate in meetings or trainings with teachers, evaluators, tutors, parents or other professionals to fully meet each child's needs
Maintain records of students’ progress and work
Develop sound relationships with all students Facilitate both independent and group work as appropriate
Reinforce classroom and school ground rules and maintain consistency in enforcing them
Watch children to ensure a safe environment during free play, lunch periods, transitions, and dismissal as needed
Read and implement Mountaintop Montessori’s policies and procedures
Abide by laws and regulations established for private schools by VCPE and the school’s accrediting organizations

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in education related field
Credential and/or experience in special education
Previous experience working with children
A positive and open attitude toward all children
Familiarity with Montessori principles or willingness to learn
Ability to direct students’ academic activities in a prepared environment that supports each child according to their special needs or challenges
Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate maturity in managing challenging situations Possess a high level of patience and good interpersonal skills
Ability to work not only with children but with parents and other staff members as well Proficiency working with computers (email, google doc, record keeping - MRX)
As a condition of employment, a criminal background check and fingerprinting are required

Demonstrate respect and kindness for the students.
Collaborate with Middle School teaching team to integrate Math with other curriculum areas. Collaborate in the creation and presentation of peace education electives, advisory, Student-Led Conferences, Unity Trip and other adolescent program team-led activities.
Consult with other classroom teachers when assigning due dates for work.
Attend Middle School level meetings and participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings.
Attend all staff meetings.
Implement school policies for classroom and school behaviors for students.
Maintain appropriate and professional parent communication.
On days mutually acceptable to the School and to Teacher, participate in schoolwide events and parent education events.
Prepare an environment that is orderly and neat that promotes optimal use of teaching time. Communicate with Middle School Director and administration regarding any needs or issues including material and curriculum needs.
Contribute to a sense of community among students, faculty and staff.
Coordinate opening and closing duties with Middle School Director.
Participate in professional development opportunities and fulfill a minimum of 8 required hours.

About Positions: Desired profile for the positions listed below is someone who has experience working with children, possesses strong classroom management skills, and has the ability to guide children through redirection and affirmative language. These positions begin mid-August and are contracted through early June with the potential of continuing into the next school year.

Hiring for the following Positions:
-Early Childhood Aftercare Assistant (2 ½ - Kindergarten)
Available Shifts: Monday – Friday, 11:30AM – 5:30PM OR Monday – Friday, 1:00PM – 5:30PM -

Toddler and Early Childhood Aftercare Assistant (ages 18 months – 6 years)
Available Shift: Monday-Friday, 11:30AM - 5:45PM

-Elementary Aftercare Assistant (6 – 14 years) Available Shift: Monday-Friday, 3:00-5:30 PM

Responsibilities -
Aftercare Assistant is responsible for (but not limited to) the following duties:
• Supervising students in the nap room, and ensuring a calm, peaceful environment • Supervising students during the aftercare program • Assisting with general monitoring of playground and meal time to ensure safety and order • Developing sound relationships with all students • Ensuring group transitions happen safely and effectively • Maintaining appropriate child-to-staff ratios at all times • Maintaining accurate records of participant attendance during parent pick-up period • Classroom Maintenance/cleaning • Must follow all Mountaintop Montessori policies and procedures, as well as all Virginia Department of Education licensing standards

Qualifications: • As a condition of employment, a criminal background check and fingerprinting are required. • Must have regular, reliable, predictable attendance in performance of essential job functions. • Experience working with children. • Ability to work effectively with parents, co-workers, and diverse communities. • Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills, initiative, creativity, and flexibility, including the ability to evaluate and make changes as necessary to ensure a successful program experience. • First Aid/CPR certification is preferred not required • The ability to sit on the floor with students, lift 30 pounds, and bend down to a child’s eye level
